A couple year and a half ago, I had a Telus sales person knock on my door offering me a VERY cheap deal on internet, but it came with a restriction. No incoming access to my house. This meant that my home server was suddenly useless. I had been thinking that I should really not be hosting anything at home on my old computer so this fact came as a useful kick in the butt to get the sites hosted there moved into a different host. I did it and now my stuff is happily living in the cloud. Except... there's a part of me that still wants some of the personal services that a server in my closet could afford me to be available.

I think I believe that

What are they? - a holding place to transfer things I need at home. (use my phone) - a git server I can access from multiple locations (what's the matter with just going local, or deleting some music from my phone so I can sneaker net that way?) - off site backup of my files - a place to install internet tools.
