How much are we all paying for internet. What do you recommend…
I was just doing a little research about the options that you have for high speed internet. I`m working with Shaw now, mostly because I have a server and Vonage at home, and I think Telus really hates you if you try and run a server on their ADSL service. But supposing you don`t have a server at home, who do you go with. Especially if you`re just going to be web browsing and a little email.
Here are the two options that I see:
Shaw
High Speed Lite (http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/ProductsServices/Internet/High-Speed+Lite/ )
$19.95 for the first 6 months then $29.95 after that although if you buy the required modem you can get a $5 discount. No contract length.
Telus
High Speed Lite (http://www.mytelus.com/internet/highspeed/display.do )
You can see the details on this plan half way down the page. $11.95 for the first 6 months then 16.95 after that, but you have to sign a service agreement (1, 2 or 3 years)
General Comparison
The download-upload speeds are pretty similar
Shaw has better service than Telus when something goes wrong, in my experience
Telus is much cheaper than Shaw judging by their adverts

I don't know what their policy is on running a server, but for cheaper high speed internet with higher speeds than the Shaw/Telus lite (256 Kbps) you could investigate YAK's DSL. You may know them from their long distance phone service (we have them as our long distance plan and get 3.5 cents a minute anywhere in Canada or US, with no minimum payments).
According to their website:
For only $34.95 per month, get:
• Up to 3 email addresses
• Up to 5mbps download speed
• Web-hosting
• State of the art anti-spam protection
• Unlimited downloads!
No contracts required and no
sneaky access fees.
I've thought about switching and saving myself 10 bucks a month from my Shaw, but I'm happy with the hassle free nature of my Shaw experience so far.

Good find Jason. That is pretty cheap. I'm digging around, because I reckon that most of my family is paying WAY to much for the weeny amount of Internet surfing that they do.
No sense in them all doing the research since their probably going to end up calling me anyways!
